Pikey Peak Trek
Trip Overview
Pikey Peak is a newly opened trail in Lower Solukhumbu area which is based on a homestay style trek. This trail is comparatively less crowded than upper parts of the Everest region and this is drawing the attention of most of the trekkers towards trips in Lower Solukhumbu. Along with the magnificent views of the Himalayan range, this trip gives a wonderful view of Mt. Everest from the top of Pikey ridge which is deemed to be the best view according to Sir Edmund Hillary.
Apart from the best views of the mountains, being one of the most culturally rich destinations with numerous chances to see ancient monasteries, Mani walls and stupas adds up great value in this trip.
Highlights
- Great views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kanchenjunga and many more.
- Visit local Sherpas, Magar, and Tamang and experience their authentic culture & food
- Exploration of Lower Solukhumbu region.
Itinerary
Commencing this trip
While most of the trek starts from Lukla in the Everest region after a short flight from Kathmandu, this trek in lower Solukhumbu can be started with an 8 – 9 hours drive from Kathmandu. This trip can also be started with a flight to Phaplu from Kathmandu with the trek to Jhapre on the same day. But since the flight schedule to Phaplu is very much limited with less surety in the flights being operated, we recommend our fellow travelers to take a safe side enjoying jeep drive to Dhap.
Choosing either drive or flight on the return back to Kathmandu will depend on the day of the week for this plan. If your return date matches the day of Phaplu to Kathmandu flight operation day, then you can take a flight back to Kathmandu. Otherwise, the jeep drive option will take your time of around 8 hours once again for a long way drive back to Kathmandu.
Best time to do this trip
Unlike other Everest region treks, this trek too is recommended to be done in favorable weather situation around March-May or October – December for the great views of Himalayan range. Better not to plan out this trip on summer as the monsoon will get the trail pretty muddy and slippery.
