Itinerary
Commencing this trip
The trip starts with a short half an hour flight to Lukla (2800m), which is the starting point for most of the trekking in the Everest region. The first-day trek will be a short warm-up trek with just 3 hours walk up to Phakding. From Namche, you will be directly moving to step up ahead to the beautiful turquoise Gokyo Lake, the ultimate destination of your trip, via Dole and Machhermo. Retracing the same way back, you will reach to Namche and finally to Lukla from where you will be returning back to Kathmandu via small aircraft.
Elongating the trip with including at least one high pass is also an option to be considered if you are interested in a slightly more challenging trip.
Best time to do this trip
Everest region can be visited year-round but the most recommended time to visit for the trek will be between March-May for spring and Mid-September – Mid-December for autumn. Other months can have the high possibility of the flight getting delayed by uncertain days or canceled due to bad weather conditions in Lukla which is frequently faced during off-season time.
If you want to experience pleasant weather with a good chance to catch a glimpse of Everest and other Himalayan giants, springtime is the best time to go. The top winter month will freeze this lake.
